How to Use ChatGPT to Write Email Campaigns (Prompts for Nigerian Businesses)

To use ChatGPT to write an email campaign, give it 6 things: your business, your audience, the offer, the tone, the length and one clear action you want readers to take. Ask for 3 subject lines and 1 short draft. Then edit it with your real details, check every price, date and claim, and send yourself a test before it goes out. ChatGPT is a fast first draft, not a finished email.

Quick answer: the 5 step workflow

StepWhat to doTime it takes
1. Brief itPaste your business, audience, offer, tone and one action5 minutes
2. Ask for options3 subject lines and 1 short draft2 minutes
3. EditAdd real details, fix the tone, cut fluff10 minutes
4. CheckPrices, dates, stock, links, claims5 minutes
5. Test and sendSend to your own phone and email first5 minutes

The brief that gets a usable draft

Vague prompts get vague emails. ‘Write an email for my shop’ gets you a brochure. Try this fill-in-the-blanks prompt instead:

You are an email copywriter for a Nigerian small business. Write a short email for [business name], which sells
to [audience] in [city or Nigeria]. The offer is [offer and deadline]. Tone: friendly, clear, light humour, simple English. Length: under 150 words. Include one button text: [button text]. Give me 3 subject lines under 50 characters and 1 draft. Do not invent discounts, prices or claims. Use naira with the ₦ symbol.

The last two sentences matter. They stop ChatGPT making up a discount you never offered.

Privacy: what not to paste into ChatGPT

This is general information, not legal advice. Customer names, phone numbers and email addresses are personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Do not paste a customer list into ChatGPT to ‘write personal emails’. Use merge tags such as [first name] in your email tool instead. If you plan to build your list first, read how to start email marketing, which covers the basics.

Tools and plans change often. ChatGPT has offered a free plan, but we could not open its pricing page to confirm today’s limits, so check chatgpt.com/pricing and the privacy settings in your account before you rely on it for business content.

Checklist: 10 checks before you press send

  1. The subject line is honest and under about 50 characters
  2. The first sentence says why you are writing
  3. Every price uses the ₦ symbol and is correct
  4. The offer has a real end date and terms
  5. There is exactly one main button or link
  6. No invented testimonials, numbers or ‘limited stock’ claims
  7. The tone sounds like you, not a robot
  8. The unsubscribe link and your business details are in the footer
  9. You sent a test to your phone and checked the layout
  10. The links open the right pages

Mistakes to avoid

  • Sending the first draft unedited
  • Letting AI invent discounts or reviews
  • Using forced slang that does not sound like your brand
  • Writing 5 offers in one email, when one is enough
  • Skipping the test email

Frequently asked questions

Can ChatGPT write a whole email campaign?

It can write the drafts for a whole campaign, such as a 3 email sequence. You still decide the offer, check the facts and set up the sending.

Will ChatGPT emails land in spam?

Spam placement depends on your sender setup, list quality and content, not on who wrote the draft. Avoid spammy wording, use a proper sending domain and only email people who agreed.

Should I tell customers an email was written with AI?

There is no rule we can point to for ordinary marketing emails, but your name is on it, so you are responsible for every claim. Edit it until it is truly yours.

Can I use ChatGPT in Pidgin or Yoruba?

You can ask for a light Nigerian tone or specific words, but read the result carefully. Keep slang to what your brand really uses.

Is it safe to paste my customer list into ChatGPT?

We would not. Customer details are personal data. Use merge tags in your email tool instead.

Want emails that actually get sent?

We can set up your email tool, sign-up forms and automatic emails, so your good drafts reach the right people.
