You can use ChatGPT to write customer replies, product descriptions, Instagram captions, and simple business plans in minutes, if you give it enough detail. The trick is the prompt: the more context you give about your business, your customer, and your tone, the less generic the answer. Below are 12 copy and paste prompts for Nigerian small business owners. Replace the [brackets] with your own details, then check the answer before you use it. These are templates, so your results will vary.

How to Write a Good Prompt in 5 Parts

A weak prompt is Write a caption for my shop. A strong prompt tells ChatGPT who it is, what your business is, what you want, what shape the answer should take, and how it should sound. Use this formula:

  1. Role: You are a friendly sales assistant for a small business.
  2. Context: what you sell, who buys, where you are, your price range.
  3. Task: the exact thing you want written.
  4. Format: 3 options, under 50 words, a short list, a table.
  5. Tone: warm, professional, light Nigerian English, no heavy slang.

Bonus move: end any prompt with Ask me up to 5 questions before you answer. That makes ChatGPT interview you first, which usually gives far better results than guessing.

Is ChatGPT Free to Use?

Yes, there is a free plan. As of August 2026, Engadget reported that OpenAI lets free users send as many text messages as they want, with a single weekly limit replacing the older rolling window, and tighter limits on things like file and image uploads, image generation, and voice mode. OpenAI does not publish exact numbers, and these rules change often. You can check your own allowance in ChatGPT under Settings, then Usage.

Prompt 2: Follow up an unpaid order

Write 3 short, polite WhatsApp follow-up messages for a customer who ordered [item] 2 days ago but has not paid. Keep each under 40 words. Prompts 4 to 7: Product Descriptions and Content

Prompt 4: Product description

Write a product description for sold by [business] in [city]. Customers are [type of buyer]. Key facts: [material, size, colours, price, delivery]. Write 1 short paragraph and 4 bullet points. Use only the facts I gave you, do not invent features, and keep the tone friendly.

Prompt 5: Instagram captions

Give me 5 Instagram captions for a post showing [describe the photo]. We sell to [audience]. Each caption should be under 30 words, include 1 call to action to order on WhatsApp, and use no more than 3 hashtags.

Prompt 6: A week of WhatsApp status ideas

I run a [type of business] in [city]. Give me 7 WhatsApp status ideas, 1 for each day of the week, that show our products, our process, customer feedback, and a small offer. For each idea, tell me what photo or video to take and write the text in under 20 words.

Prompt 7: A simple promo

Plan a simple 1 week promo for [business] around [occasion, e.g. end of year]. We sell and can afford a discount of up to [percent]. Give me the offer, 3 messages to send, and 1 rule to stop it eating into my profit.

Prompts 8 to 10: Planning and Thinking

Prompt 9: A pricing sense check

Prompt 10: Let ChatGPT interview you

Act as a business coach for small businesses in Nigeria. I run [describe business]. Ask me 5 questions, 1 at a time, about my customers, prices, and where my sales come from. After I answer all 5, give me 3 specific things to try this month.

Prompts 11 to 12: Website and Payments

Prompt 11: Website FAQs

Here is what my business does: [short description]. Write 8 frequently asked questions and clear answers for my website. Cover prices, delivery, payment, returns, and how to order. Where I have not given you a fact, write [ADD DETAIL] instead of guessing.

Prompt 12: A polite payment reminder

Write a polite invoice reminder email for a client who owes [amount] naira for [service], due on [date]. Keep it under 80 words, keep the tone professional and friendly, and include a clear next step.

Before You Trust the Answer: 4 Checks

  1. Check every fact. ChatGPT can sound sure and still be wrong, especially on prices, laws, and dates.
  2. Protect customer data. Do not paste names, phone numbers, addresses, or bank details. Nigeria also has a data protection law, the NDPA, that covers personal data. This is general information, not legal advice.
  3. Never let it invent proof. No fake testimonials, fake numbers, or fake client names.
  4. Make it sound like you. Edit the result so it matches how you actually talk to customers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ChatGPT really free?

There is a free plan. Limits and features change often, so check Settings, then Usage inside ChatGPT for your current allowance.

Can ChatGPT write in Nigerian English or Pidgin?

It can try, but the results vary. Tell it your audience and ask for light, natural phrasing, then edit it yourself. Always read it aloud before you post.

Can I use ChatGPT to write my whole business plan?

It can draft a structure and ask good questions, but the numbers and local facts must come from you. Use Prompt 10 to build the plan together.

Is it safe to share my business details with ChatGPT?

Share only what you are comfortable sharing, and never customer personal data or financial details. Check OpenAI’s current privacy settings for your account.

Will AI replace my need for a website?

No. AI helps you write and plan faster. A website is where customers confirm you are real, see your prices, and contact you.
