7 Signs Your Business Website Needs a Redesign (and What It Costs in Nigeria)

If your website is slow, looks dated, or brings in no enquiries, it probably needs a redesign. But a redesign is not always the right fix. Below are 7 signs it is time, and a simple way to decide between redesigning what you have and building from scratch.

7 Signs It Is Time for a Redesign

  1. It loads slowly on a phone. Most of your customers browse on mobile data. If a page takes long to open, many will leave before they see anything.
  2. It does not work properly on mobile. Tiny text, buttons you cannot tap, menus that break. Open your site on your own phone right now.
  3. It looks older than your business. Customers judge credibility in seconds. A tired design makes a good business look careless.
  4. Visitors do not turn into enquiries. If traffic exists but calls, forms, and orders do not, the structure is failing, not the traffic.
  5. Your offer has changed but the site has not. New services, new prices, new location, and the website still describes last year.
  6. It is hard to update. If changing a phone number needs a developer and a week, the site is working against you.
  7. Search results show it badly or not at all. Missing titles, broken pages, and no Google Business Profile link all point to a site that was never built to be found.

Redesign or Rebuild?

A redesign keeps your content, domain, and structure, and replaces the look, speed, and layout. A rebuild starts from nothing. Redesign is usually the smarter, cheaper move when the problems are visual, speed, or mobile related. Rebuild makes sense when the platform itself is the problem.

What a Redesign Costs in Nigeria

Our published price for a full redesign of an existing website is ₦400,000. That covers a full visual redesign of your existing pages, content migration, mobile responsive design, speed improvements, basic SEO setup, business email, and 1 year of domain and hosting. For comparison, a brand new 5 page corporate site starts at ₦350,000 and a starter online store at ₦500,000. See the website redesign page for the full scope, or website design pricing for new builds.

Whatever quote you receive, ask what is NOT included. Domain renewals, ongoing maintenance, and new content are the usual surprises.

How to Redesign Without Losing Your Google Rankings

The biggest redesign mistake is breaking pages that already bring you traffic. The checklist agencies use is simple:

  1. Record what ranks now. Note your top pages and the searches they appear for in Google Search Console before anything changes.
  2. Keep page addresses where you can. If an address must change, set up a permanent (301) redirect from the old address to the matching new page, one to one, not everything to the homepage.
  3. Keep the content that ranks. Do not rewrite pages that already perform just because the design changed.
  4. Test speed before launch. Google’s Core Web Vitals targets are a main content load under 2.5 seconds and minimal layout shift. Fix problems before going live, not after.
  5. Watch the first month. Check Search Console for crawl errors and keep an eye on your top 20 keywords.

Before You Start: Protect What Already Works

  • Confirm you own your domain and hosting. Many redesigns stall because the old agency holds the logins.
  • List your best pages. Anything already ranking on Google or getting traffic should keep its address, or be redirected properly.
  • Gather your real content. Photos, prices, testimonials. Fresh design cannot fix missing content.
  • Write down what the site must do. Get enquiries, sell products, take bookings. Design decisions follow from this.

How Cterling Approaches Redesigns

We start by auditing what is already working so we do not throw it away, then rebuild the design, speed, and structure around it. You can see the kind of results we aim for in our case studies, for example Dashel Stores, whose owner says the site loads very fast even with over 1,000 products. Browse more on our work page.

FAQ

How long does a website redesign take?

A typical small business redesign takes a few weeks, depending on how many pages you have and how quickly you supply content and feedback.

Will I lose my Google rankings?

Not if it is done properly. Keep page addresses where possible, add one to one 301 redirects for any that change, keep content that already ranks, and monitor Search Console after launch. Rankings can dip briefly after any big change, which is why the monitoring step matters.

Do I need to change my domain name?

No. A redesign normally keeps your existing domain.

Can you redesign an online store?

Yes, but stores usually need more scope than the standard package. Tell us about your catalog and we will quote it properly.
