Last updated: October 2026.
A Shopify store in Nigeria costs about US$19 to US$54 a month in subscription fees for most small businesses (Basic or Grow plan, billed yearly), plus a 1% to 2% Shopify fee on every sale, because Shopify Payments is not available in Nigeria. Add a theme, apps, a domain and your payment gateway fees, and a realistic first-year budget is the subscription times 12, plus setup, plus a small monthly buffer. We will do the sums in naira below, with the exchange rate clearly marked as an example.
Quick answer: what you will pay
| Cost | What Shopify lists (October 2026) | What it means in naira |
|---|---|---|
| Basic plan | US$19/month billed yearly, US$27/month billed monthly | About ₦28,500 or ₦40,500 at an example rate of ₦1,500 per US$1 |
| Grow plan | US$54/month billed yearly, US$72/month billed monthly | About ₦81,000 or ₦108,000 at the same example rate |
| Advanced plan | US$299/month billed yearly, US$399/month billed monthly | About ₦448,500 or ₦598,500 |
| Fee on each sale (third-party gateway) | 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced | ₦20,000 on every ₦1,000,000 of sales on Basic |
| Trial | 3 days free, then US$1/month for 3 months (offer shown on the pricing page) | About ₦1,500 a month for the first 3 months |
Check before you pay: prices are in US dollars, so the naira figure moves with the exchange rate. We used ₦1,500 per US$1 only to make the arithmetic easy. Use today’s rate and confirm on Shopify’s own pricing page before you commit.

Shopify plans and what they cost in 2026
Shopify has 4 main plans. Most Nigerian small businesses will live on Basic or Grow. Advanced and Plus are for stores with serious volume and a team.
- Basic (US$19/month yearly): fine for a new store with a small catalogue.
- Grow (US$54/month yearly): lower fee per sale, worth it once your sales climb.
- Advanced (US$299/month yearly): reports and a 0.6% fee, for bigger stores.
- Plus (from US$2,300/month): enterprise territory. If you are reading a cost guide, this is probably not you yet (and that is fine).
A warning about older articles: some blog posts still quote Basic at US$29, US$32 or US$39 a month. Shopify’s pricing page in October 2026 lists US$19 (yearly) and US$27 (monthly). Always trust the vendor page over a blog, including ours, and check the date on whatever you read.

Why Nigeria has an extra fee
Shopify Payments is the built-in checkout system, and it is only offered in a list of countries. Nigeria is not on Shopify’s supported countries list. So Nigerian stores connect a third-party payment provider instead.
When you use a third-party provider, Shopify charges its own transaction fee on top of whatever the provider charges. That is the 2%, 1% or 0.6% in the table above, depending on your plan.
The payment providers most Nigerian merchants look at are Paystack and Flutterwave. We are not quoting Paystack or Flutterwave rates here, because fees change. Look at each provider’s current fees directly, and confirm that the one you want is available for your Shopify store in Settings, then Payments.
A quick worked example
Say your store sells ₦2,000,000 in a month. On Basic, Shopify’s 2% fee is ₦40,000. On Grow, 1% is ₦20,000. Grow costs about US$35 more a month on yearly billing (roughly ₦52,500 at our example rate), so at this sales level Basic is cheaper. Grow starts to win when monthly sales pass roughly ₦5,250,000 at the same rate. Your numbers will differ, so redo the maths with your own sales and today’s exchange rate.
The other costs people forget
- Theme: there are free themes and paid ones in the Shopify theme store. Check the price on the theme page before you buy.
- Apps: reviews, email, upsells and shipping tools often have their own monthly fee. Start with 2 or 3, not 12.
- Domain: a .com is a yearly cost, paid to Shopify or any registrar.
- Payment gateway fees: the provider’s cut, separate from Shopify’s fee.
- Setup and design: product uploads, photography, branding and checkout testing. Doing it yourself costs time. Hiring someone costs naira.
- Paying in dollars: Shopify bills in US dollars. Not every Nigerian card is enabled for international subscriptions, so some merchants use a dollar virtual card or a domiciliary card. Ask your bank which of your cards work for international subscriptions.

Shopify vs WooCommerce: cost at a glance
If the dollar bill makes you nervous, WooCommerce is the main alternative. It is free software that runs on WordPress, so you pay for hosting, a domain and your own setup. We go deeper in our guide to WooCommerce vs Shopify in Nigeria.
| Cost area | Shopify | WooCommerce |
|---|---|---|
| Software | Monthly plan in US dollars | Free plugin |
| Hosting | Included in the plan | You pay a host in naira or dollars |
| Fee on each sale | Shopify fee (1% to 2% on Basic and Grow) plus gateway fee | Gateway fee only |
| Maintenance | Shopify handles updates | You (or your developer) handle updates and security |
| Best when | You want a simple, hosted store fast | You want full control and local hosting |
Neither is automatically cheaper. A store with little time for maintenance may be better off paying Shopify. A store that needs custom features may be better on WooCommerce. See our notes on website maintenance costs for the WooCommerce side.
Checklist: budget your Shopify store before you start
- Pick your plan (Basic is the usual starting point) and write the monthly cost in naira at today’s rate.
- Add 2% of your expected monthly sales for Shopify’s fee (or 1% on Grow).
- Check your payment provider’s fees and confirm it works with your store.
- Confirm which card you will use to pay Shopify in US dollars.
- Price your theme, domain and the 2 or 3 apps you really need.
- Decide who uploads products and photos, and put a cost on that time.
- Add a buffer of 10% to 20% for the first 3 months, because something always comes up.
- Set a review date at month 6 to check whether a different plan fits your sales.

FAQ: Shopify cost in Nigeria
How much is Shopify per month in Nigeria?
Shopify bills in US dollars. As listed in October 2026, Basic is US$19/month billed yearly (US$27 billed monthly) and Grow is US$54/month billed yearly (US$72 monthly). The naira cost depends on the exchange rate on the day you pay.
Is Shopify free in Nigeria?
No. There is a short trial. The pricing page shows 3 days free, then US$1/month for 3 months, but check the current offer, because trials change.
Does Shopify Payments work in Nigeria?
No. Nigeria is not on Shopify’s list of Shopify Payments countries, so you use a third-party payment provider and pay Shopify’s third-party fee on top.
Can I accept naira payments on Shopify?
Stores in Nigeria use third-party gateways such as Paystack or Flutterwave for local payments. Confirm what your chosen provider supports for Shopify before you launch.
Is Shopify cheaper than WooCommerce in Nigeria?
Not always. Shopify has a predictable monthly bill but it is in dollars and has a per-sale fee. WooCommerce has no per-sale software fee but you pay for hosting and maintenance. The cheaper option depends on your sales and who does the technical work.
Can I pay for Shopify with a Nigerian card?
It depends on your card. Not every Nigerian card is enabled for international subscriptions, so ask your bank, or use a dollar virtual or domiciliary card. Card rules change.
